Cargo ships are the main product of HSB. Each ship is tailored to the needs of the customer. The ship is also customized according to the type and quantity of the cargo to carry as well as the scale and facilit ies of the harbor to call at.
Chemical tankers transport chemicals such as sulfuric acid and caustic soda. They are usually equipped with several separate tanks.
Each tank is either made of or coated with special materials in order to have a strong resistance to the chemicals.
LNG carriers transport liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is the natural gas condensed into liquid by cooling it down to -162°C. LNG carriers are equipped with tanks which are highly durable and safe. HSB built the first domestic LNG carrier in Japan in July 2003.
LPG carriers transport LPG, liquefied petroleum gas. There are two methods to condense petroleum gas into liquid: compressed type and refrigerated type. Large LNG Carriers adopt the latter.
LEG carriers transport ethylene, a basic material for petrochemical products. Although ethylene is a gas under normal conditions, it is cooled down to -103°and condensed into liquid(LEG) for transportation. Therefore, the carriers need refrigeration units and other technical know-how used in marine transport.
